I am an Argentine-born , Canadian-raised, Anglican priest and community theologian. For the past 27 years I have lived in heart relationship with the people of Guatemala, and currently live in Santa Cruz del Quiché, in the Guatemalan highlands, where we operate ‘Peace House’ a place of healing. I am priest-in-charge of the Chapel of the Holy Innocents. The Quiché was a region devastated by the genocide of the 1980s, when a quarter of a million men, women and children were massacred, and is still broken with violence, and poverty. Chronic child malnutrition rates rank highest in the Americas, and fifth highest in the world. My work as a theologian is directly related to the working out the story of the martyrs in the genocide, understanding the past and ongoing crucifixions of this place and the sure hope of resurrection. I share space and spirit with multiple Maya traditional practitioners. Here’s some of my publication history: Viva Zapata! is about you know who, and how he came to be who he was. (Tradewind Books, 2009) The Granddaughters of Ixmucané, Guatemalan Women Speak is the adult book (Women’s Press, 1991). Here are the journals that I can remember: Geez, Momentum, Ministry Matters, Anglican Journal, Compleat Mother, Telar (founding editor, 1991 –1993), Composting News, Matriart, Briarpatch. I stopped publishing for about 10 years as I was single parenting, going to seminary, and just trying to get by. I have a number of unedited books (3-4), that are between 80 — 90% completed. Going Down to Xilbalbá, is the collection of my letters from my recent time in Guatemala. |
